Bernadine Williams Everette Obituary Bernadine Williams Everette was born on January 24, 1935 to the late Columbus Williams and Imelda Marshall in Manhattan, New York. Although Bernadine was an only child, she was always surrounded by one or more of her 18 maternal aunts and uncles. Bernadine spent her younger years growing up in Harlem, NY, Brooklyn, NY, and settled in Queens, NY, where she attended high school. While in high school, Bernadine met her one and only husband Russell H. Everette Jr., whom she married at the age of 18 and remained married for 27 years. During her early years of marriage, she had two children, the late Russell H. Everette, III and Bernadette Everette-Logan. Four years later she had two more daughters, Jacquelyn Everette and Antoinette Everette-Williams. Although Jackie, who has Down’s syndrome, required additional help, Bernadine was always determined to give her access to the same opportunities as other children. With determination, Bernadine enrolled Jackie in programs where she could learn to read and write, get a job, and take transportation to work. With help at home from her mother, the late Imelda Marshall and oldest daughter, Bernadette, Bernadine was able to go to nursing school to become a LPN (Licenses Practical Nurse). In 1968 she began working at Queens Hospital Center from which she retired in February 1994. In addition to becoming an LPN, she was also able to achieve her dreams of traveling and being surrounded by her closest of friends by traveling to places such as Africa, Greece, the Caribbean and various places in the United States like Virginia where she was beloved by the family of her dear friend, the late Ms. Shirley Mae Haile. In between traveling and working hard, Bernadine loved spending time and buying presents for her grand children. No matter the occasion, birthdays, graduations, and especially Christmas, she was there, gifts in hand. Her heart filled with special moments with each and every one of them. After retiring in 1994, Bernadine moved to Virginia where she took care of her late mother and daughter Jackie. While there she joined First Baptist Church Denbigh (with Pastor Ivan T. Harris presiding), became a member of the Red Hat Society called Sophisticated Ladies, volunteered for the Girl Scouts for the handicapped and learning disabled, and befriended many where she worked and worshipped. After being diagnosed with COPD, Bernadine and Jackie moved to Springfield, NJ in June of 2005 to stay with her daughter, Antoinette, son-in-law, Dwayne and grandson, Isaiah. While living in Springfield she joined Fountain Baptist Church of Summit, NJ, with Pastor J Michael Sanders & Reverend Vernon Williams presiding. There she attended Bible Study, joined the choir, volunteered, participated in many church events and was befriended by many. After being diagnosed with Dementia, Bernadine’s last year was spent at Spring Grove Rehabilitation Center in New Providence, NJ. Her final month was difficult and lonely due to the many days of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. She left us on April 14, 2020. In closing, Bernadine enjoyed making people laugh; she spoke honestly and always wanted to help. In her younger days she enjoyed dancing and dressing up; and her favorite pass time was interior decorating, sewing clothes, and taking time out to send cards and give gifts to her family and friends. Bernadine was preceded in death by her son Russell H Everette, III on March 22, 1987, her mother Imelda E. Marshall on August 16, 1998, her dear friend Shirley Mae Haile on November 23, 2003, her son-in-law Mack McCoy Logan, Jr on February 14, 2013, and her ex-husband Russell H Everette, Jr on October 21, 2013. Bernadine is survived by her three daughters Rev. Dr. Bernadette Logan, Jacquelyn Everette, and Antoinette Everette-Williams, her son-in-law Edward Dwayne Williams, her granddaughters LaShawna Logan, LaTishia Monique Logan-Towles (husband Fred Towles) and Shakita Logan-Goodwin (husband Eugene Goodwin), her grandsons Isaiah Malik Williams and Mack McCoy Logan III (fiancé Anisa Abdur-Rahma), her great-grand children Cheyenne River Logan, Makayla Rose Logan, Aurora Sky Hamilton, with Mack McCoy Logan IV and Melody Storm Logan on the way, Arameisha Logan, Marsheen Logan, Dante Rodriguez, Siearah Rodriguez, her great-great grandchildren Kailon Logan and Jaelin Logan, and extended family Dolores Logan (fiancé Gregory Erskine), and a host of family and friends. The family is thankful and cherishes the love, concern and well wishes bestowed on Bernadine. She will be dearly missed. A special thank you goes to her very close friends Sarelia Nevius. Barbara Begeleus, Ruby Facey, Judy Copeland, Velma Cason, Michelle Dixon, Richard and Debra Harrison and Elizabeth Bustille. See below for viewing details.
