BERTHA MAE LING Bertha Mae Ling was born Bertha Mae Mack in Florence, South Carolina on July 9th, 1947. Her parents were the late Mary Lois and Wendell Mack. She was the fourth child of twelve. (Maddie, Linda, Gary, Cassie, Peggy, Quincy,Harold, Synthair, and Jeffery). Her oldest sister and oldest brother Valerie and Willie preceded her in death. Bertha attended Johnson High School, in Timmonsville, SC where she meet the late Charles Ray Samuel. Together they had Orthelia (Thea). Four years later she moved the Jersey City, NJ where she meet and married the late Harrison Ling. Together they had Earick. During that time for several years she worked at Maxwell House Coffee after leaving Maxwell House she worked and Retired from the Naval Base in Bayonne NJ at the age of 52. After retirement she then moved to Irvington, NJ with her significant other James Odoms, Jr. While living in Irvington she took on the responsibility of baby sitting for six years her grand kids Darris and Taeah and Shawn Stewart Jr. who she treated as her grandson. Bertha loved to cook and baby sit her grand kids. She was a member of First Bethel Baptist Church in Irvington, NJ. She was full of energy and laughter, and often did not know how funny she really was. She alway sacrifice her needs for the good of her family. Bertha will always be remember for her kind heart, big smile, the will to give and the best cook in the Family. On November 21, 2018, God called Bertha home after a long illness. She is survived by Daughter Thea , Son Earick, Grand kids Darris and Taeah, Sisters, Brothers and a host of Nieces and Nephews and Friends. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race.
