Mother Betty Jean Marshall entered eternal rest on November 02, 2024 was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend, whose legacy of faith, love, and service left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Born on June 10, 1942, in Columbia, SC, to Elizabeth and Lonnie Hall, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Jeanette Wright, who nurtured her skills in sewing, cooking, and baking. Her early years were steeped in the foundation of faith, as she attended Sunday School and church services faithfully with her grandmother, instilling in her a lifelong devotion to Christ and family.
At the age of 18, Jean moved to New York and New Jersey, where she worked for Western Electric before transferring to General Motor where she worked over 30 years until retiring in 2005. It was at Western Electric where she met soulmate, William Marshall. They were married in April 1974. Their union of more than 50 years was a testament to her deep love and devotion; even in her final days, she thought of his well-being above her own. Her selfless spirit is something many will cherish, as she constantly sought to help others, often reminding her loved ones that “you never know when you will need help.”
Jeannie was a devoted woman of God who enriched her loved ones' lives with her cooking, compassion, and wisdom. In 1995, she became a member of Macedonia COGIC in Somerset, NJ, where she was deeply committed to service. Known for her graceful movements down the pew and her spirit of praise, she was a woman of unwavering faith and strength. She served on the Usher Board, led the Pastor’s Aide, and pursued a Bachelor of Theology from The Williams Clemon Davis Bible Institute. As a cherished mother of the church, her wisdom and encouragement lifted those around her. Alongside the "Golden Girls" of Macedonia COGIC, she shared insights on scripture and life, leaving those in her presence blessed by her spirit, words and recipes.
Mother Betty Jean Marshall’s commitment to discipleship and mission encouraged the growth and development of the future new church building both spiritually and physically. She worked tirelessly for the community, dedicating her time, energy, and love to serve those around her. Her devotion to God’s work extended beyond the church walls, as she sought to uplift and support her community in countless ways. Whether through service, her relentless effort to support the building fund drive, her encouragement, or her acts of kindness, Mother Marshall’s legacy of faith and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Mother Betty Jean Marshall was preceded in death by her daughters Angeline and Kathleen Davis, brother Robert Brooks, and her parents, Elizabeth and Lonnie Hall. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, William; her devoted daughter, Gwendolyn Marshall; her loving son, Daniel (Keosha) Pringle III; and her grandchildren McKenzie, Gabriella, Alexandria, Damyien, Daniel IV, Jaylen, and Kyra.
