Mr. Bruce Vivian Valentine, son of Barbara Valentine and the late Wille Lee Valentine Sr., was born May 1 st , 1965 in Mecklenburg County, VA. He departed this life on September 7 th , 2018 in Midlothian, VA. He is preceded in death by his son, Bruce Christopher. He regularly attended and was baptized at his grandmother’s church in Chase City, VA. Bruce graduated from Park View Senior High School in South Hill, VA in 1983, and moved to Richmond, VA, where he began his career in construction, and later facilities management. Bruce was employed at Target for many years until his health began to fail. His hobbies were fishing, home repairs for his friends and family, working out, gardening, maintaining his home, and working outdoors. He often referred to his home as his ‘nest,’ and spent a great deal of time in his ‘mancave.’ Bruce was very knowledgeable in world events and politics. He loved to watch wrestling and football and was an avid Redskins fan. Bruce especially enjoyed spending time with his mother and father- in-law underneath the trees, and he never hesitated to express how much he loved his ‘Mom and Pops.’ He loved to listen to the rain and would sit out on his back porch to watch thunderstorms. You could often hear Bruce humming and singing his favorite tune around the house, and he had an infectious laugh that could brighten anyone’s day. Bruce was a devoted husband and father, and a kind person that enjoyed the company of people older than him for their wisdom. He loved his family and carried on a family tradition of giving his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren nicknames. Bruce leaves to mourn his loving wife of twelve years, Audrey (of the home); two daughters- Alanya and Alisha; three stepdaughters- Dushunna (Patrick), Tenicia, and TyAsia (of the home); four grandchildren- Cameron, Jayden, Tia, and Ari; two older brothers-Wille Jr. (Shantelle), and Vaughn (Marjorie) Valentine; five older sisters- Nannie (William) Brooks, Eunice Johnson, Odessa (Randy) Coleman, Valencia Valentine (Lewis), and one younger sister, Mary Smith (LaRicky); sisters-in-law- Linda Macklin, Daphne Lightbourne, and Octavia Tisdale; brothers-in- law- Aubrey (Toya) Crenshaw Jr., and Xavier Tisdale; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. To know Bruce was to love him; he was a man of few words, but the words that he spoke were very impactful. Bruce had a strong faith in God, and he demonstrated his faith by continuing to trust in the Lord throughout his illness. He is at peace now, and even though he is not here with us anymore, his memory will forever live in our hearts.
