Carol Keats Garland was born on May 9, 1940 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Daniel and Grace Keats. She departed this life June 16, 2018 at home. Carol was the first of four children and was raised in Scotch Plains NJ and educated in the Scotch Plains public school system. Carol attended and graduated from Essie Mae School of Cosmetology in Elizabeth, NJ. Carol chose to put her education to good use by working various jobs before becoming an entrepreneur and opening Garland’s Boutique. While maintaining Garland’s Boutique, she worked for the State of New Jersey Unemployment Office. Carol worked and retired from the Township of Piscataway, February 1, 2006. Carol was married to the late William “Cab” Garland and to this union three children were born; Kim, Tiffany and Adam. Carol was a true servant in the church. She was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church where she served as an Usher and the President of Hospitality. Upon relocating to Charlotte, NC, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was an active and loyal servant. She was a member of the Missionary Ministry, and in 2016 she was crowned Queen of the United Missionary Baptist Association. She was a member of the Culinary Ministry, Tuesday Morning Senior Bible Study Class and the Senior Adult Ministry where she was president for four years. Carol was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. During her life she enjoyed modeling and sponsoring fashion shows, shopping, bowling, traveling and planning traveling events. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Grace Keats; her husband, William “Cab” Garland; daughter, Kim Keats Nelson; step-son Howard B. Garland; sisters, Barbara (Potts) Jacquet and Shirley Potts. Carol leaves to mourn her loss, her daughter, Tiffany Garland (Aaron), Piscataway, NJ; son, Adam Garland, Piscataway, NJ and step-son, William B. Garland (Alyx), Elizabeth, NJ; brother, Theodore “Teddy” Keats (Cheryl), Scotch Plains, NJ; sisters, Diane Keats, North Plainfield, NJ and Sharon Keats, Leland, NC; six grandchildren, Tyshon Mills, Tashon Young, Spenser Keats, Jared Garland, Kiara Garland and Chas O’Reilly; seven great grandchildren, Keyshon Mills, Destiny Young, Azaan Keats, Azaaya Keats, Aakiyah Keats, Jeremiah Worilds and Jaxx Garland. She also leaves to cherish her memories, companion, David “Poncho” Smith, Richmond, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
