A Time to be Born:
Charelle Antionette Williams lost the battle with her prolonged illness on March 22, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born to Helena and the late Hilery “Harry” Williams on July 18, 1969 in the city of Newark, NJ. She began her education at St. Ann’s Elementary School (Newark, NJ) where she realized her love of basketball by playing on the school team. She continued on to Mt. St. Dominic Academy (W. Caldwell, NJ), during which time her illness surfaced. She then transferred to St. Patrick’s Catholic High School (Elizabeth, NJ), where she graduated in 1987.
A Time to Sow:
Charelle worked for Bette R. Grayson & Associates (Millburn, NJ) for many years after attending Essex County College. Once she moved to Piscataway, she decided to pursue her passion by obtaining her cosmetology license from Middlesex County Vocational School. And, she created magic with clients’ hair until her health started to decline.
A Time to Worship:
Charelle’s spiritual journey began under the leadership of Rev. John T. Teabout, Sr. at the Good Neighbor Baptist Church (Newark, NJ), where she was baptized. She moved on to Tabernacle Baptist Church under Rev. Jeffrey Bryan, where she worked as his Executive Assistant. When traveling distances became difficult, she moved her membership to St. John’s Baptist Church, where she remained until God called her home (Scotch Plains, NJ). During her spiritual journey, Charelle enjoyed bible study, singing in the choir and serving on the culinary ministry.
A Time to Rejoice:
Charelle found great joy in spending quality time with her family and friends. Her safe haven was the kitchen and cooking became her therapy. She was known for showing off her delectable soul food dishes and baked sweets on social media. But, if she wasn’t cooking meals for her family and friends, you could find her feeding the sick and shut-in. She not only fed the less fortunate, but also kept them warm by crocheting hats, scarves and blankets with those nimble fingers of hers. Her love for babies led her to crochet scarves, hats and blankets which she donated to the local hospital’s new born unit. Her nurturing spirit doesn’t stop there, as she has been the ‘favorite aunty’ to many young people over the years. However, the highlight of her life was unquestionably the love and devotion she had for her mother. You rarely saw one without the other. And, let us not forget her love for chatting with her phone buddies, especially Carolyn, Uncle Sonny and Aunt Sheila.
A Time to Cherish:
Charelle was predeceased by her father, Hilery “Harry” Williams and her brother, Hilery Williams, Jr. She leaves to mourn her cherished mother, Helena Williams; two siblings, Warren Williams (Alberta) and Crystal Matthews; three godchildren, Naasir Hassan, C.J. and Avery Sykes; one great-aunt, Gladys Griffin; a bonus sister, Janice Bennett-Johnson (Michael); along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
