Clarence Herschel Guyton, Jr. was the Son of Clarence Guyton Sr and Cresia Bell. Clarence was a charismatic man, his very presence commanded your attention when he walked into a room. He was a well-groomed gentleman, who left a lasting impression on those in his company. Mr. Guyton didn't' talk much but when he spoke words of wisdom it was profound. The love of his life was his childhood sweetheart Mattie L. Bell, they were married for 26 years, and their union was blessed with two beautiful children Renny and Felicia Guyton. He was a loyal, dedicated family man. Earlier in their marriage they lived in California where they enjoyed the coastal beaches.
Mr. Guyton was known by many as "Chico", he was described as a kind, generous soul that would do anything for someone in need; he was a man of his word. His running buddy was his favorite cousin Traylor. He enjoyed traveling to see family in Trenton, taking scenic drives listening to Frank Sinatra songs and his all-time favorite music artist was Jackie Wilson. A true sports man his teams were the Boston Celtics, New York Mets, and Philadelphia Eagles. He loved a good hot dog or hamburger at the games, but his favorite sandwich was corn beef and pastrami.
When he was 10 years old, he ran away from home and hitchhiked through three cities just to get to his father, Herschel was determined that he was not going to work in the cotton fields in Georgia. He eventually joined the Marines for four years, in 1961 he took a test to become a State Trooper but he was told he missed it by one point, that probably wasn't true but it was the 60's, he moved onward an worked for a telephone company for 5 years, most notably he helped build the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, there are bricks with his individual family members names. Later, in his career Herschel became an iron worker for over 30 years until he retired. After he retired he became a superintendant for 7 years. Some of his favorite sayings were "Capeesh", "You Got That Right", "Let Me Live My Life" but most of all "I Did It My Way" was the soundtrack of his life.
