David Michael Dorsey Sr. departed this life on February 2nd, 2025, at the age of 62, in New Brunswick, NJ. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
David was born on February 7, 1962, in Baltimore, MD, to Helene (Hall) Dorsey and Everett Carlton Dorsey Jr. He was baptized on June 7, 1962, at St. James Episcopal Church in Baltimore, MD, and later attended Springfield Gardens Methodist Church in Queens, NY.
From a young age, David was independent and determined—at just 22 months old, he got his father to put his coat on, left the house and walked to the corner store, and returned with a lollipop, all on his own. As a child, he was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, earning his cooking badge by making breakfast for his family.
David was intellectually gifted and was accepted to P.S. 131 in Jamaica Estates, Queens to nurture his talents. Once the family relocated David completed high school in Freeport, Long Island. He received a full scholarship to Howard University and later enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as an electronic technician and had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. He continued his education in computer programming and went on to have a successful career, working for Transamerica Real Estate Tax Service (as a Senior Programmer) and JP Morgan Chase, among other roles in computer programming.
He was also an active athlete, playing baseball and basketball. David also served as an umpire for amateur baseball, staying connected to the sport he loved. In addition, he was in bowling leagues and took great pride in participating in the football pool with his family and friends. David had a deep love for sports, passionately supporting his favorite New York teams—the Yankees, Giants, and Knicks. He was a dedicated fan who never missed a game.
He also had a great appreciation for classic Western films and cartoons, which filled his home and heart with joy. His love for old-school music was ever-present, creating a warm and lively atmosphere wherever he was.
An amazing chef, David’s cooking skills were legendary among family and friends. His infamous potato salad became a staple at family gatherings, and whether hosting or preparing a simple meal, he brought people together through his love of food.
David was charismatic and he was the life of the party! He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and joy to those around him. When you think of David, we hope it will bring a smile to your face.
