Dorothy Gray Clark gained her wings on March 27, 2023, with her family by her side in
Somerset, New Jersey.
She was born March 22, 1952, in Elm City, North Carolina, to the late Frank and Janine
Macklin. Dorothy affectionately known as Dot was the oldest of six children and always was the supportive big sister to her siblings.
She was educated in Wilson County Public School system in North Carolina. After, spending
her summers in New Jersey with her family, she eventually relocated to Plainfield, NJ as a teen. Dot worked several jobs she loved from working at group homes to driving buses for the school districts and Rutgers University. Her infectious smile and grin brought joy to so many people and would brighten up any room.
Dot touched so many people’s lives; her greatest joy was her children. Her hobbies included
spending time with friends and family, being a hairdresser, gardening, cooking many famous
meals, and baking exceptional cakes. She devoted much of her time and energy to loving and
enjoying the presence of her family and friends whom meant everything to her.
In her final days, she was surrounded by family and friends with whom she shared a memorable legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda Faye Macklin and her brother-in-law
Charles Reed.
She is survived by her children: Carolyn Sirmans of Pensacola, FL, Tracy Scott-Dale (Gary) of
Pensacola, FL, Lawrence Clark, Jr. (Wisteria) of Pensacola, FL, and Annie Guy (Benjamin) of
Somerset, NJ; Bonus children: Lateef (Erin) and Drew (Cheryl) O’Connor. Grandchildren Jamar (Brooke), Terrence (LaKeedra), Jasmin, Kartavious, Tamara, Benjamin, Aiden, Sade, Eden, Josette, Drew, and Grey; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Annie Reed, Joyce Macklin, and Dianne Evans; two brothers: Marvin and Robert Hinton;; six best friends: Deborah, Janet, Cynthia, Angel, Neicey, Jean and Regina; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Center for Great
Expectation in the name of Dorothy G. Clark
