Eleanor Clemonts, "Ellie," "Miss Ellie," "Aunt Ellie," "Grandma," "Mema," and "Mom," as she was fondly called, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 94. Eleanor was a vivacious, charismatic personality with a great sense of humor and was always honest. You always felt like you were in for a good time with her.
Eleanor was born to Raymond and Ossie Williams on April 1, 1930, and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey. In 1960, she married Albert Clemonts, a military serviceman. Ellie began traveling the world, and Alaska and Germany were among her favorite places to live.
Miss Ellie briefly worked for RCA. She also worked passionately in childcare, dedicating many years to the Lakewood and Berkley Head Start programs. She then moved to North Brunswick, New Jersey, where she cherished her family and dedicated herself to their well-being, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Ellie had a keen mind and loved to keep it active with puzzles and reading. She enjoyed striking up conversations with people and reading the Asbury Park Press, which kept her connected to her beloved Lakewood and the Jersey Shore. She also had a knack for finding treasures at a good garage sale. Eleanor found great joy in fellowshipping with other women during Wednesday Bible studies at Grace Church of North Brunswick, where her faith was strengthened, and her bond with Jesus and her sisters in Christ deepened.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Albert Clemonts, and her son, Gregory Reed. She is survived by her son, Albert Clemonts Jr.; her daughters, Denise (Lamont) Williams and Christina (Erik) Nelson; her grandchildren, Be Knowledge (Breashia) Allah, Faith (Darion) Bennett, Kiara Clemonts-Diaz, and Cristian Williams; sister-in-law, Alberta Daniels; six great-grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. Eleanor will be greatly missed, but the love she shared will continue to live on in our memories forever.
