Flonnie Eleanor Burns Hamilton transitioned peacefully to her eternal home on December 10, 2019 in Plainfield, NJ. Flonnie was born in Indian Trail, N.C. daughter of the late Dorothy Little Burns and Clement F. Burns. She was a resident of Plainfield, NJ for the past 50 years. On November 18, 1961 Flonnie united in holy matrimony with Emmett D. Hamilton. This union was blessed with three children, Kimela, Jenell, and Spyder. Flonnie was raised in Indian Trial, NC where she graduated from Western Union High School in 1956. She relocated to New Jersey in 1958. She was employed by Essex County Hospital in Cedar Grove, New Jersey as a Nurse’s Aidefor over 40 years until her retirement in July of 2000.
At an early age Flonnie became a member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Indian Trial North Carolina. In 1985 she joined St. Luke’s A.M.E. Zion Church in Westfield, NJ under Rev. Debra Moody. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s. She served on the Angelic Choir, Missionary Society and also served as Missionary President, she was consecrated as a Deaconess under Rev. Theodore Calhoun. She was St. Luke’s 2017 Honorary Member. She was a member of the NAACP and also member of the Roselle, NJ chapter of AARP.
Flonnie especially enjoyed being with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to places like Hawaii, Israel and many cruise destinations. She loved to laugh, talk on the phone, sing and listen to gospel music. She had a wonderful joyous spirit and made a loving impression on everyone she met.
Flonnie is predeceased by her parents Clement F. and Dorothy Burns, and her brothers Malcolm Burns, Hubert Burns Sr., Larry Burns, Alvin Burns, and Clinton Burns.
Surviving and cherishing her memory is her beloved husband Emmett Hamilton of 58 years. Two daughters: Kimela(Douglas) Galloway of Laurel, Md., Jenell (Hesley) Robinson of Newark, De., and son Spyder Hamilton of Plainfield , NJ. Brother Gerald (Edna) Burns of Raeford, NC. Four sister-in-law’s Elzora Burns, Debbie Burns, Carolyn Hamilton and Ida Mae Convington. One Aunt Jessie Little of N.C. Five grandchildren: Christopher Galloway, Lindsay Galloway, Bradley St. Clair, Jordon Hamilton, and Marcus Hamilton. Special Sister Cousin Norma Royal, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
