On May 18th 2020, George Appiah-Kumi Sr. passed away at St. Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. George was born May 5th, 1957 in Asuom, Ghana. His unexpected passing followed a two-week hospital stay for Covd-19, where he was diligently cared for by doctors and nurses. During that time, his family came together to support him through prayer and daily video calls showing a bond and strength that fostered nothing but peace towards his final days. George resided in Franklin Township for nearly three decades. During that time, he was a truck driver at several companies and spent the last six years as a bus driver for Coach USA. As a brother of the SMART Local 1589 Union, he loved his work and the people he worked with. Throughout the community George was known for his kindness, mild-manner, vibrant smile and infectious laugh. He was always smiling and loved extending a helping hand to anyone in need. He did so much for others and always encouraged others to pay it forward. In his spare time George loved to listen to country music and talk politics with his friends. Preceded in death by his father Julius Manasseh Kyei and mother Bertha Abena Mirekuaa, George Appiah-Kumi Sr. is survived by his wife Georgina Appiah-Kumi, his five children, George Appiah-Kumi Jr., Edith Appiah-Kumi, Derek Appiah-Kumi, Joycelyn Kwarteng, Maxwell Kwarteng, his grandchildren Zion, Jeremiah, Elisha, former wife Kate Afrah, and his sister Victoria Korang. Since the announcement of his passing, the family has received numerous phone calls and text messages from the tri-state region and throughout the African Diaspora. We appreciate the sympathetic words expressed by everyone who knew George, it is a testament to his helpful nature and positive attitude towards everyone. We thank you all. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14
