Gertrude Cook Hargrove, daughter of the late Oliver Sr. and Ethel Inez Rogers was born August 3rd 1941 in Perth Amboy NJ. She was the 7th sibling out of seven. She grew up and attended the public schools of Perth Amboy, NJ.
After high school Gertrude joined the workforce even at a young age in many different capacities. Some of the jobs included a paper route, even in her early 20s she become a barmaid at club 3, she also worked for RCA, White Westinghouse, Perth Amboy School System, Home Health Care, as well as being a Bella-Meade model during her spare time.
In 1974, Gertrude was united in marriage to the late Louis S Hargrove Jr. whom she loved for 12 years before his passing. Two souls becoming one created their only child Lorene Hargrove born in New Jersey but resides in Georgia. The simple enjoyment of bowling with her family was her favorite hobby.
Gertrude was called home on January 6th 2024 but for official purposes January 7th 2024 in her bed with her daughter Lorene and grandkids D’Ante and Leslie at her bedside for those last loving moments.
She was predeceased by her father Oliver Cook Sr.; mother Ethel Inez Rogers Cook; husband Louis Saunders Hargrove Jr.; her two brothers Leon and Oliver Cook and her three sisters Vina Mae, Grace and Baby Girl Cook whom was too young to name.
She leaves the earth in flesh but not in spirit, while leaving fond and loving memories of her to share, her daughter Lorene of Georgia (Cliff whom she claimed as her son-in-law); her grandson dear D’Ante J Hargrove; granddaughter dear Leslie G Hargrove (Jamarii whom she claims as her grandson-in-law); Stacia Hawes-Barton (Kenny whom she was proud to call her other children); her sister Rose Lester of Colorado; her special neice Thelma Jones of New Jersey; her goddaughter Doris Birch of New Jersey; her godson Matthew Lester of New Jersey; her brother-in-law Clarence Hargrove of North Carolina; Devacio Staley whom she claimed as her son; her special friends The Carter Family of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
