Hugh Jepheth Brown

June 24, 1943 — January 20, 2024

Hugh Japheth Brown was born on June 24, 1943 in Plainfield, NJ to the late Edna E. Brown. He was the second eldest of her four children.


Hugh was an avid NY Giants and Boston Celtics fan. He loved watching his sports and was an avid wrestler in his high school years and was the NJ Regional Champ in his Senior Year. Hugh attended Plainfield Public Schools and graduated in June 1962. He was an Electrician at General Motors for many years before retiring in 2006. Hugh enjoyed league bowling with his co-workers during his years at General Motors. While awaiting retirement from GM, he was a volunteer at First Baptist Economic Development. His most enjoyable times were spent with his family and laughing with his sons. He enjoyed his talks with his Big Brother, Walter, who preceded him in death by 80 days. He enjoyed visiting with his Sister Darlene in North Carolina and his cousin Ramon in South Plainfield. He enjoyed going to the clubs and spending time with his friends. He occasionally went to Atlantic City to visit his good friend and co-worker Vinnie.


Hugh departed this life on January 20, 2024. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Elaine Brown of Somerset, NJ. Three sons, Jeffrey Brown (Andrea) of Secaucus, NJ, Brian Brown of Somerset, NJ and Steven Brown (Sharon) of New Brunswick, NJ. Two grandchildren, Destiny Brown of Somerset, NJ and Dr. Judah Brown of Englewood, NJ; as well as one great grandchild, Natalie Blake. Two sisters, Darlene Brown of Fayetteville, NC and Debra Burgess (Earl) of Griffin, Ga. He was also a big brother to his two cousins, Henry Turley, Jr. (Genie) of Avenel, NJ and Ramon Turley (Crystal) of South Plainfield, NJ; a Goddaughter, Leslie Williams-Dunn (Kevin) of Hillsborough, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.




In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Hugh J. Brown.
