Deaconess Inez Slaughter, 93, of Columbus, Georgia, was born to the late Ernest and Eula Baldwin on May 3, 1928, who sadly departed this life on Saturday, February 19, 2022, in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
She attended the Colquitt County school system in Georgia. After completing her education, Inez met and married James Kinchen and from this union, one child was born, Judy Carol Brown. After relocating to New Jersey, Inez furthered her education in electronics. She then became employed by Fairchild Industries in Saddlebrook, New Jersey, where she did soldering on circuit boards for transistor radios. After employment at Fairchild, for several years, Inez met and married Herman Slaughter.
Together, Inez and Herman joined White Rock Baptist Church in Linden, New Jersey, where they served and worshiped for many years. Inez was a faithful member of White Rock and held a position in the Flower Club for many years.
Inez was truly a ball of fun. She loved to cook, but her specialty was making sweet potato pies. She also loved fishing, crafting, and spending time with her grandkids and great-great-grandkids. Inez was also known for getting in her car and traveling from Georgia to New Jersey and from New Jersey back to Georgia alone. After leaving Fairchild Industries, she became employed at Allied Bendix Signal in Teterboro, New Jersey, where she built parts for the space shuttle and was often visited by John Glenn.
After several years of employment at Bendix, she retired and Inez and Herman relocated to Columbus, Georgia, where they joined Nazareth Baptist Church under the late Robert L. Holston.
Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Slaughter. She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish precious memories: her daughter, Judy Brown; her devoted son-in-love, Kenneth Brown; two grandchildren, Terence Kinchen (Celeste) of Edison, NJ, and Tahara Inez Kinchen of Elizabeth, NJ; four great-grandchildren, Aliyyah Barri of Atlanta, GA, Shaheed Barri of Columbus, GA, Tarik Carter (Daya) of Elizabeth NJ, and Khaayla Mootry of Rahway, NJ; three great-great-grand[1]children, Humzah Kinchen of PA, Alicia Thomas of Atlanta, GA, and Madysen Higgs of Elizabeth, NJ; four great-great-great-grandchildren, Amir Taylor of Roselle, NJ, Bryson Carter and Aubry Carter of Elizabeth NJ, and Serenity Mootry of Rahway, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Slaughter of Lumpkin, GA, and Videll Slaughter and Eliza Upshaw, both of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Nathaniel Slaughter (Fannie) of Detroit, MI; one devoted cousin, Debra Sue Naylor of Moultrie, GA; three special friends, Rose McGhee, Shirley White, and Anita Sawyer; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends. Inez will sorely be missed by many who loved and cared about her.
