Leslie Jo-Anne Childs-Harris Obituary Leslie Jo-Anne Childs was born on September 6, 1964 in Newark, NJ to the late Herbert (Herbie) Allen Childs and June Guilford Childs. She was the younger of two children. Leslie attended Newark and Orange public Schools. She spent one year at St. Charles Boromeo and graduated from Oak Crest High School in Mays Landing, New Jersey. She went on to pursue a career in Social Work, attending first Atlantic Community College in Mays Landing then Essex County College in Newark. As we sometimes do, she decided to change directions and earned two certificates from Katherine Gibbs College of Business; one in Executive Secretarial Studies and one in Paralegal Studies. During her work life she held marketing and administrative positions at The Yellow Pages and Bell Core. She spent several years in the Transportation Department of the Edison Board of Education. She also held a number of positions as a Sales Associate, Assistant Manager, Manager and Supervisor at companies such as Dress Barn, Planet Fitness and Home Depot. Leslie’s passion was making people happy. Her sense of humor and bright smile could turn any frown upside down. She was kind, warm, and compassionate and always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She was also an excellent cook. Her carrot cake was phenomenal and was requested regularly from both friends and family. She was also the queen of mac and cheese. Leslie leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss, her husband of twenty-two years, Steven B. Harris; her mother, June Childs-Kerr; her mother-in-law, Loyes Harris, her brother, Jeffrey Childs (Cassandra); two bonus sisters, Thereon K Kerr-Frazier (James); Angella Kerr-Gladen (Guy) sister-in-law, Renee Harris-Shumate (Gregory); brother-in-law, Edwin Harris (Kimberly); special aunt, Lois McGuire (Mitchell); special uncle, William Guilford (Vanessa); six nephews, Denis, , Edwin III, Austin, Justin, Jeffrey, John-Michael; two nieces, Courtney and Sydney; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Leslie, our hearts are so heavy. There are no words to express how much we love you and how much you will be missed, but we know that you’re our special angel in heaven right now. Rest well my princess.
