Lyman Hogue, Jr. was born September 14, 1936 in Cleveland County, North Carolina to the late Lyman, Sr. and Nina Mae Moore. Lyman lived in Shelby, North Carolina and graduated from his local high school prior to migrating north to New Jersey.
April 17, 1965, Lyman married Vernis Ross and this was the beginning of their lifelong journey of love. Lyman owned a transportation company and could direct you anywhere on the East coast with his eyes closed. When not at work, Lyman was with family and friends.
Lyman was an avid bowler in several bowling leagues, held the office of secretary in the NAPE bowling league (NJ), and was no stranger to a 300-game and winning bowling tournaments. Lyman also enjoyed football and he rarely ever missed watching a game for his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Lyman was kind, reliable, loving, and always good for a witty quip of a joke. You could set your clock by his weekly Tuesday breakfast date with his wife Vernis. His love of all things technology and mechanical was from a young age and held true up until his passing. He is known in his community for fixing lawnmowers and appliances for his neighbors and friends.
God called Lyman home on November 3, 2023 at age 87. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lyman, Sr. and Nina Mae Hogue; sisters Jessie (Hogue) Allison, Bettye Jean (Hogue) Jenkins; brother Joe Louis Hogue; and brother-in-law Obie Ross, Jr.
He will forever be cherished in the hearts of his wife Vernis Hogue; brother-in-law McKinley Ross; his special grand-niece Keisha Coffee; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
