Marion D. Rogers was born in Lamar, South Carolina on September 25, 1928 to the late Ethel and Theo Rogers. He was educated in the Lamar Public School System, and along with his siblings helped run the family’s farm which consisted in excess of 150 acres of land. Marion migrated north, first to Philadelphia and then to Brooklyn NY. After several years in Brooklyn, he purchased a home and moved his family to Perth Amboy NJ. His array of occupations was monumental. Having driven a charter bus for Dominico Bus Company, he was most proud of being the driver for Stevie Wonder, who he often told stories about their time on the road. In the late 70’s he went into business for himself, establishing Rogers Used Brick Company where he employed numerous family members. Marion was a hardworking man, often putting in 16-hour work days to support his family. His strong will and passion to establish a successful business was engrained in him from an early age. He demanded respect and ran a tight ship. Marion was an extremely hard working man, not retiring until the age of 85. Marion was predeceased by his wife, Jean T. Rogers, his parents, Theo and Ethel Rogers, his brothers, James, Theo, Herbert, Frederick, Haywood and sisters, Ethel, and Arlene. Left to mourn him are his children, Veronica (Jacob), Gloria, Joanna, Althea (Stephen), Donald (Dana), Jacqueline (Chester), and Josette (Kevin). Siblings, Mary, Ronald (Sherilyn), Michael (Mary), and Helen. Step-mother Mattie, his first wife Bessie; grandchildren, Ja’mon (Marielle), Joshua (Nandi), Alex, Tyrice, Raquel, Daniel, Alonzo (Kimberly), Erica, Cromarte, , Nakia ,Stacey (Ramona), Jaliel, Tarynn, Dajon, MaDeja (Duc), Naijah, Giovanna, Malachi, John, and Jayson. A host of great- grandchildren, great great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
