Marrion Marie Craighead

Marrion Marie Craighead, daughter of the late Isaac Craighead, Sr. and Pauline Craighead Roberts, was born on October 31, 1951 in Charlotte County, Virginia. She was called to rest on December 1, 2024.

Marrion spent her childhood years in Chase City, Virginia, before moving to Newark, New Jersey. She attended Newark Public Schools and graduated from Shabazz High School.

In Newark, Marrion met Curtis Carroll, and together they were blessed with four children: LaTanya Craighead, Curtis Craighead, Denise Thomas, and LeTasha Craighead.

Marrion worked as a cashier at ShopRite in West Caldwell over 25 years, where she built lasting relationships with both customers and colleagues. She was known for her vibrant energy, lively personality, sense of humor, and sometimes her junk-talking. Marrion’s love for her work community made retiring a difficult decision, but she officially retired in May 2024.

Marrion loved spending time with her family, especially chit-chatting with her sisters, traveling with the family, and spoiling her grandchildren. She had a passion for growing her flowers and plants, cooking traditional southern meals and redecorating her home to make it warm and welcoming. Born on Halloween, she embraced every holiday with her own personal touch and style. The life of the party, she hardly missed a chance to hit the dance floor when there was music playing. And if you knew Marrion, you knew her signature style always included a pair of sunglasses—no matter the time of day or the season! She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family cherishing every moment with those she loved the most. 

Marrion was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Craighead Sr.; her mother, Pauline Craighead Roberts; the father of her children, Curtis Carroll; and her two brothers, Stephen Roberts and Isaac Craighead.

She leaves to cherish in her memory three daughters, La Tanya Craighead (Matthew), Denise Thomas (Wali) and LeTasha Craighead, and son Curtis Craighead; two sisters, Arlene Craighead (Charles) and Phyllis Richardson; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncle,  and friends.
