Rev. Reginald Byrd

Reverend Reginald Byrd was born November 26, 1966 to Agnes and the late Ernest Byrd in the heart of Jersey City, New Jersey. Reggie was an honorable man, a devoted father, caring son, and loving husband. He attended and graduated Carson Long Military Institute, where he developed his leadership skills and his desire to serve his country. He served in the U.S. ARMY from 1986-1996 in various infantry capacities to protect our National Security. Some of his military experience included serving in the US ARMY Communication School, the Air Defense Artillery Branch, Air Borne School, and Special Ops. Reggie was a dedicated soldier and patriot. Following his military career, Reginald joined the corporate sector where he worked as a Pharmaceutical Consultant for 19 years. Reggie later ventured out to entrepreneurship, and became CEO of R. Byrd Holdings LLC. Reggie was a brilliant business man. He was very industrious and financially savvy. He was a day trader on the NYSE. Reggie was one of the most caring, hardworking, and trustworthy human beings. His intrinsic motivation propelled him to serve others, as a mentor, leader, role model and advocate. On September 29, 2012, Reginald Byrd married Kelly Byrd, his best friend of 21 years. Throughout their relationship, Reggie and Kelly were inseparable. They stood by one another through thick and thin. Their marriage was one marked by a strong commitment to family, love, faith and hope. Their marriage was a match made in heaven. They served together in ministry and represented the best of everything God has to offer. Together the couple served as an incredible model for love and faith. They were truly soulmates. In 2006, Reginald gave his life to Christ and became a member of New Zion Revival Temple Church. He then followed his call to study Theology at The Evangelical Bible Institute, becoming an ordained minister. At the New Zion Revival Temple, Reggie graciously served on the Men’s Ministry Committee. As a ministerial leader, he was a towering force, earning the respect and admiration of Christian and secular leaders. Reggie touched the lives of many and was loved by all. Cherished memories will forever live on in the hearts of his wife, Kelly Byrd, son, Steven Byrd, mother, Agnes Byrd, stepson, Khayree Jawwaad (Courtney), stepdaughter, Zaynah Jawwaad, two sister-in-laws, Kim Jackson, Cynthia Young (Darvel); three brother-in-laws, Corey, Eric & the late Shawn Jackson. He also leaves to mourn his uncle, Rev. Eugene Byrd, Pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Jersey City, where he often fellowshipped. He also leaves to mourn two aunts, Hattie Rhodes and Carolyn Hendricks; A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Reggie believed that the greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without a purpose; and [[‘;’?life with the wrong priorities.
