On February 2, 1959, Robin Denise Braxton was born to beloved parents, Cornelius and Rose Braxton, in Westfield, NJ. Throughout her life, Robin has been known for always being unapologetically herself. A strong woman, who has been able to endure and overcome some of life’s greatest challenges. A daughter and a mother. A partner and a friend. She has dramatically affected the lives of all who knew her.
Robin grew up in Westfield, NJ, where she attended the Westfield School System alongside her 6 brothers and sisters. Cornelius “Butchie” Braxton Jr. (deceased), Ernie Braxton (deceased), Kenneth Braxton (deceased), Glenn Braxton, Linda Chandler and Lisa Braxton.
During her younger years she was a member of the Westfield Community Center Drum and Bugle Corp. She twirled the baton and marched every year in the Memorial Day and the Fourth of July parades.
She was a member of the modern dance group through the Community Center and also the R&B dance group called Sonja B and the Foxy Four who consisted of Robin, Sonja Braxton Barnes, Karen Braxton, Shelly Wayne and Gwen Morgan. During her grade school years in McKinley School, she was very athletic and dominated the volleyball tournament that was a major event in 6th grade. She always won the 1st place prize…a huge ‘candy bar’ given out by her teacher Mr. Watkins. While at Roosevelt Junior High school she was a part of the gymnastics team and was a very good gymnast.
On New Year's Day, 1981, Robin was blessed with starting a family of her own. She would grow up to raise 4 strong men: Lamont W, Eric Tyshon, Danté Zerrel and Kaison Nadir. Although leaving sooner than expected, she was able to see her family blossom even further with two grandchildren.
Robin moved to Plainfield, NJ in later years, where she settled down with her life-partner and longtime fiancé, Vernon Lewis, better known as Hasson. There Robin continued her career working many years in data entry, merchandising and customer service, while along the way, leaving many lasting impressions and making lifelong friendships.
She was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her 4 sons; Lamont, Eric, Danté and Kaison, her Fiancé; Hasson, her brother; Glenn, her sisters; Linda and Lisa, grandchildren; Zariyah and Zakai, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
She will be missed immensely, but those who’ve had the privilege of knowing her, her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
