Rosa Lee-Braxton

September 29, 1927 — November 17, 2023

Rosa Bell, better known as Rose, left this life and went home to be with Jesus on Thursday morning, November 17, 2023, at the age of 96, in Bowie MD. She was in hospice care.

She was born to the parents of Clyde and Anna Lee on September 29th, 1927, in Evington Virginia where she attended the public school system.

At age 17, she relocated to Westfield New Jersey to assist her sister Mary. Some years later she met Cornelius Braxton, better known as Neily. They fell in love and were married on May 2, 1947. They resided in Westfield and raised their 7 children.

Rose worked in the domestic field for over 30 years. Her employers were very good to her, and she was very devoted to them. She was a very independent and strong woman full of grace and mercy. She was a gifted seamstress and loved to cook for family and friends. She was known for her homemade rolls and mac & cheese, although anything she cooked was savory and delicious. She enjoyed her morning decaf coffee and reading her bible. She sat for hours working on her wordsearch books.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was in the choir, part of the flower club, an usher and served on the board of trustees. Her and her sister, Mary, were always volunteering to cook for an event as well as the rest of the trustees and choir members.

Rose and Neily resided in Westfield NJ for over 55 years, upon which time they moved to Bowie MD in 2006. In 2015, Rose was diagnosed with Dementia. As time moved on, she slowly declined, but she was still full of zeal and faith. Her children rallied around her and took good care of her. Rose was a kind soul and greatly loved the Lord. She was loved by all her children, grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Her name to them was” Nana”. They call her “Blessed”.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Anna Lee, her husband, Cornelius, (Neily), her children Cornelius Jr (Butchie)-(Donna), Ernie (Mildred), Kenny (Beatrice), and Robin. Her sisters and brothers, Louisa Lee, Lucy Smith, Ethel Sparrow, Nelly Gadsden, Corrine Walthall, Mable Walthall, Clyde Lee, Philip, and Herbert Lee.

Rose left two daughters, Linda and Lisa, and one son, Glenn. She left one sister, Augusta, who is still living in Virginia.

A special recognition to her devoted daughter Lisa A Braxton for the special love and care during her illness.

Rose loved the Lord with all her heart and served as the Lord guided her.
