Telfer Norman Grandison passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care in Scotch Plains, NJ after an extended illness. Telfer was born on June 12, 1937 in Stony Creek, VA to the late Telfer Grandison Sr. and Emma Graves Grandison. Telfer was raised by his aunt, the late Annie Grandison. Telfer was one of five children. Telfer attended Mason Town Elementary School in Stony Creek, VA. Telfer attended school at night and on Saturdays and completed his GED. Telfer accepted Jesus at an early age and joined the Rocky Mount Baptist church in Dinwiddie, VA. In 1960, at 23 years old, Telfer moved toNewark, New Jersey. He started working as a Longshoreman at Port Newark and held this job for 46 years before retiring. In June 1960, Telfer met Christine Reddick. Theywere married on October 6, 1962 in Newark NJ. They resided in Newark NJ for a few years and later moved to East Orange, NJ. They adopted their little buddle of joy, Tina Maria, in 1984. They joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Newark, NJ in 1963. Telfer was later ordained as a deacon. In December 1972, they moved to Scotch Plains, NJ, where he resided for 46 years. Telfer and Christine joinedSt. John’s Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, NJ in 1973.Telfer was ordained as adeacon in 1974. After retirement, Telfer enjoyed doing things around the house and visiting the elderly. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandson. Telfer is predeceased by his parents, Telfer and Emma Grandison, two sisters Edna Jackson of Richmond, VA and Emma Lee Hill of Dinwiddie, VA, and two brothers Milton Grandison of Richmond, VA and Overy Lee Grandison. Telfer leaves to treasure his memories his wife of 56 years Christine R. Grandison, one daughter Tina Maria Jackson (Robert) of Scotch Plains, NJ, one grandson JaydenLewis, one step-granddaughter Gemma Jackson, one brother-in-law Robert Reddick Sr. of Hillside, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
