Hillside

Veronica Skeete, known to many as Yvonne Jeffery, was born on September 8, 1935, in Guyana, South America. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Veronica’s life was one of resilience, determination, and deep love for her family.

Her early years were marked by hardship and loss. Veronica’s mother tragically passed away during childbirth, and her father went away to fight in a war, never to return. Despite these early challenges, Veronica grew up with strength and a fierce commitment to her siblings and herself. As a young adult, Veronica became a mother to three children, whom she raised with love and devotion as a single parent.

In her pursuit of a better life for herself and her children, Veronica made the courageous decision to leave her children with family members in Guyana and travel to England. There, she studied nursing, determined to create new opportunities for herself and her family. After completing her nursing studies in London, Veronica married and had two more children, growing her family even further.

Veronica’s journey led her to the United States, where she was sponsored by Newark Beth Israel Hospital to join their nursing team. She immigrated to America with her two youngest children, never forgetting her three children still in Guyana. In a beautiful and heartfelt reunion, Veronica brought all five of her children together in Hillside, New Jersey—a blessing that she cherished deeply.

Veronica’s career as a nurse spanned approximately 50 years, during which she worked in various facilities, including White House Nursing Home in Orange, NJ, Visiting Nurses of Essex Valley in East Orange, and Cornell Hall in Union, NJ. Her dedication to her profession and the people she cared for was unwavering, and she touched the lives of many patients, coworkers, and friends along the way.

Veronica was not only a devoted mother and grandmother, but also a beloved friend and colleague. Her life was an intricate web of love, kindness, and perseverance, and she leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew her.

Veronica is survived by her five children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, all of whom were blessed to call her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones forever.

Rest in peace, Veronica. You were a shining example of strength, love, and unwavering dedication.
