OBITUARY:Virginia Byrd, 84, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2018 after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Virginia was born to the late Matthew and Lily Evans, in Omaha, GA on November 20, 1933. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Jersey City, NJ. Her employment career includes electrical engineering companies Western Electric, Lockheed, Bendix and finally Breeze Eastern Corp. where she worked for 37 years and retired in 2016. She was a Certified Electrical Assembler making soldered electrical and electronic connections. In addition, she was a Certified Soldering Inspector. She worked in the company’s military aerospace rescue hoist division. Virginia married her loving husband, the late David Burton Byrd, on November 12, 1955, in Jersey City, NJ and had one daughter from that union. Virginia was kind, loving, outgoing and always spoke her mind. She always had time to listen, answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, cooking and hosting dinners. She adored her grandson and her family. She will be remembered for her gift of hospitality, extremely generous giving and her love of helping and praying for others. She was a devoted member of Trinity Temple SDA church. Virginia was blessed with a large and loving family and will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is resting in peace. Virginia is survived by her daughter Laverne Werts (Artemus Werts,Sr.); her grandson Artemus Werts, Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by 4 sisters and 5 brothers. The funeral will be held on Thursday September 20,2018 at Trinity Temple Church 35 Hillside Ave. Newark, NJ. The viewing is 5:00pm-6:00pm and the funeral is 6:00pm with a repast immediately following.
