Whitley Murray

July 27, 1950 — December 21, 2017

Whitley George Murray was born on July 27, 1950 in Barretts Town, St. James, Jamaica, West Indies, the second of five children born to the proud parents, the late Anzil Murray and Lovina Dixon. He passed away on December 21st at the age of 67 years old at St. Peter's University Hospital. "Peck", as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, lived and went to school in Jamaica. He worked as a sculptor and enjoyed his artistic achievements. In 1980 he migrated to the United States. He worked as a warehouse worker with extensive hands-on experience for 30 years for companies such as Wonder Bread, Terumo, and Staffmark. He was adventurous and traveled every opportunity he got. He enjoyed weekends with his friends where he gathered for a drink or two, a game of ludi, dominoes, and cards and the occasional philosophical debate. He was predeceased by his "soulmate" Lenora Sumpter, brother Tom Murray, and mother and father Lovina Dixon and Anzil Murray. Whitley is survived by his son Whitley Desmond Murray, sisters Dinty Murray-Jackson and Mercelyn Murray, and brother Stamford Murray. He loved his family deeply and always looked out for them whenever he could to make sure their needs were met. He left them with his legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance. The way in which he touched everyone's lives and and the memories he left will remain with us forever. Though his smile is gone forever, And his hand we cannot touch, Still we have many memories, Of the one we loved so much, His memory is our keepsake, With which we will never part, God has him in His keeping, We have Whitley in our heart.
