Mother Willie Maude Battle, affectionately known as “Gram” left this life to return to the open arms of her Creator on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 11:25am. She was born on Sunday, November 27, 1927, in Decatur, GA and transitioned this life on Sunday, May 26,2019. Mother Battle moved to New Jersey and lived in Carteret most of her life, where she met and married her husband, the late John Battle. Mom was known for her signature look, “Sharp.” She has a unique taste in Fashion and Home Décor. Ready to go at any given moment, trips to the mall were not always about herself. Being selfless, she dressed many and made sure her loved ones had the perfect outfit or accessory for all upcoming events and occasions. Shopping was truly her passion with Tennis being a close second. However, her love of Tennis doesn’t fall too far behind. Mom loved to be around her family and friends, no matter what, family meant everything to her. All she ever wanted was for her kids to get along ~ her way. Her love of Gospel music has always been a strong force in our home. At any given time you’d hear James Cleveland, Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Hawkins Singers, Tramaine. Along with that came Donny Hathaway’s “Thank You Master, A Song for You, To Be Young, Gifted and Black” and many more. Mother Battle was pre-deceased by her husband John Battle and two sons; Steve and Timothy. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gwendolyn; Janis and her husband Willie; Talat; Karen and her husband Raymond; her brother Billie; 15 grandchildren; a host of great and great-great-grandchildren; Nieces; Nephews; God Son; God Daughter; and her special adopted daughter Sharon, who was always “the Ram in the Bush.” Thank you Sharon, Mom loved and appreciated you and for ALWAYS being there. Mother Battle was a faithful Christian, who knew the Lord and the power of the Gos-pel. Her favorite word to the end was “HALLELUJAH”. She had the Nurses and Aids all saying “HALLELUJAH”. Her great grandson, Camrin, at a very young age started calling her “LUVS”. It was a perfect fit. LUVS would like you to know that her work here is done. This new journey takes her to a wonderful place filled with love, music, laughter and a guaran-teed reunion with family and friends that she has not seen in a long time. Now as we reflect on Her life today in the midst of our sadness, let us rejoice in the fact that She now resides in the presence of Almighty God, free from the cares of this life and forever at peace.
