Obituary of Edith A. Tapscott

Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Today we remember Edith Abney Tapscott, who accepted God's invitation for eternal peace on
Wednesday, November 6, 2019.
Edith, affectionately also known as "Edie” to family and friends was born on July 22, 1938, to the Late
Gradie Abney and Arabelle Brooks in Washington, DC. Edith along with her mother were long standing
active members at The Greater First Baptist Church.
Edith who attended public schools in DC graduated from Cardozo Senior High School. She would
always say I attended High School and Church on the Hill! She continued her studies, at American
University where she studied Accounting.

She retired from the Department of Agriculture/Federal Government and then on to work at Washington
Federal Bank and Howard University.
In her spare time, Edie loved the Washington Redskins, loved to shop, music, travel and spending time
with her family. Edie was one of the founders of the Les Uniques Social Club in which they traveled,
club affairs, community events, but more importantly their own unique sisterhood. Her “infectious smile”
and pleasant attitude endeared her to all people.
Edith leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted daughter Pam (Wayne), a granddaughter the love of
her life, Candice. Additionally, she welcomed extended family with Kanandi Hall (grandson) and loving
companion Ronald B. Shelton. She also leaves many family members and devoted friends.
