Obituary of Willie Floyd

Willie Floyd was born on March 21, 1945, in Clanton, Alabama to the late Kempress and Adline Floyd. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark, New Jersey. Willie was the ninth child of fourteen siblings. Willie relocated to Newark, New Jersey in 1968 following his sister, Evelyn Johnson’s footsteps, and he also wanted a change. Immediately after relocating to New Jersey he landed a job at Cosmar Trucking, Elizabeth, New Jersey as a truck driver. Soon, thereafter, he met Martha Waters. They were later married, and from that union they were blessed with one child, Tonya Yvette. Willie was employed by a trucking company in Newark, New Jersey and he worked diligently for this company for many years. At the start of his career with the company, he was employed as a Truck Driver, then Forklift Driver and ended his career with this company as a Warehouse Supervisor, when unfortunately, the trucking company went out of business. Soon after he was employed with M. Chasen & Son in Irvington, New Jersey, until recently when he took a voluntary lay off due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Willie also worked as a bartender for the People’s Choice Lounge for many years until 2017, under the ownership of his best friend of 51 years, Phyllis Clark, with whom he shared his love of the Washington Redskins. He worked Monday nights, where he would serve his infamous grilled hotdogs. Folks would not only stop by just to eat his hotdogs, they often took hotdogs home to their families as dinner. Willie loved sports!!! He was a Washington Redskins fan, a Boston Celtics fan, and an LA Dodgers fan. He was also a referee and umpire for many high schools and communities throughout New Jersey. Wearing number 17, he was a dedicated softball player for the People’s Choice Cougars for many years, where he was affectionately referred to as “Plug.” During his time as a PC Cougar, they won 4 NJ Transit League championships. He continued to support the team well after his retirement. Willie was a God fearing man who accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He wasn’t shy about his love for the Lord and would often mention having thanked the Lord for waking him up and for keeping him, his family and those he loved safe. He was a firm believer that God was always in control. Willie was a resident of Irvington, New Jersey for over 40 years. Willie loved and cherished his family. He was a loving, devoted and kind man. He never met a stranger, and he had a conversation for everyone he came in contact with. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Kempress and Adline Floyd, his wife, Martha Floyd, his brothers, John Lewis, Robert, Grefus, Joe Earl, Walter and Paul, and his sister, Nora Mae. Willie leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Tonya Flood (Clefe), granddaughter, Tanysha Flood, great granddaughter, Taniyah Flood, brothers, Joseph (Mary Jean), Jerry (Shundra) and Harold, his sisters, Evelyn (Levon), Mary and Imogene (Willie), devoted companion Cynthia Gray, Godson Randy Walker, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
