Her Life Story Alma Rose Smith July 18, 1950-May 16, 2020 Alma Smith, 69, of Piscataway, New Jersey passed away May 16, 2020 in New Port Richey, Florida. Alma Rose Smith was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on July 18, 1950 to the late Sally Mae Inman and Calvin Inman. She graduated from Piscataway high school, and then pursued a long-time career at Rutgers University. Alma later went to and graduated from nursing school as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as an LPN until her forced retirement due to illness. In 1972, Alma married the love of her life, Rev Chester Smith Jr., whom she first adored because of his soulful voice. From their loving union came two beautiful children, Dion Smith Sr., and Tamara Smith. Alma relocated to North Carolina in the late 90’s and continued her passionate work as an LPN. She was later diagnosed with cervical Cancer around 2005. Throughout the years to follow, Alma was diagnosed with lung, breast, and bone Cancer. She received chemotherapy and radiation in Florida at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Alma loved to cook, entertain, and be amongst family and friends. Everyone knew that if they came to her house, they would always have a place to stay and a home cooked meal. She also loved to crochet blankets for her loved ones, as well as painting. Alma started her own business, Juss-US, where she bred Yorkshire Terriers to serve as emotional support animals, as well as providing baked goods for sale. Alma loved to shop and look her absolute best at all times. She took great pride in being “sharp”. Alma was a member of the NAACP and became a licensed minister to help those wanting to commit their love. Alma was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Inman; mother, Sally Mae Inman; her brother, Willie Calvin Inman; husband, Chester Smith Jr.; and mother-in-law, Lenora Smith. Alma leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted and caring daughter, Tamara Smith; loving son, Dion Smith Sr.; granddaughter, Tamara Laidler; grandson, Dion Smith Jr.; sisters, Antoinette Peteet (Colemen Peteet, Sr.), and Donna Inman; niece Chanika Inman; nephews Coleman Peteet Jr., and Calvin Peteet; goddaughter Tamiko Brooks; godson Harold Reid Jr; and father-in-law, Chester Smith Sr. She also leaves behind her longtime companion Tracy Newkirk; friends who stood by her side throughout her journey and beyond, Cynthia Maiden, Edward Johnson, Inez Barnes, Ann Wilson, and Linda Brooks. A sincere thank you to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, where she received several treatments for Cancer; and HPH Hospice, who provided excellent end of life care and comfort.
