Obituary of Edward Spicer

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward “Eddie” Spicer, affectionately known as “Spice”, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Thursday, March 22, 1962, to the late Edward H. and Delores O. Spicer. He was a twin and the third born of five children. Eddie was raised in the Catholic Church and received his Christening, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation at Our Lady of Solace Roman Catholic Church in Coney Island. This is also where he began his formal elementary school education. Furthering his education, Eddie attended and graduated from John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1980. Upon his High School graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer. His position was Hospital Medic stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. After eight years of service Eddie was Honorably Discharged. Moving in a new direction, Eddie began a long and successful career with the New York City Fire Department Bureau of EMS in the position of Emergency Medical Technician. While his career began in the Bronx, NY, he went on to become the famous “SPICE” at Post 36, Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Spice was the Station’s mentor, chef, dad, DJ, and party host! The close-knit station family played team football, basketball and formed the famous Cumberland 36ers Softball team. On their RDOs Eddie created the “Spice of Life Productions” and recruited his “Crew”, from old friends and EMS buddies, to help DJ community parties and events. Together, they created unforgettable memories. It’s also well known that Spices’ Underground home BBQ’s and backyard parties were not to be missed! After his retirement Spice kept in touch with many of his EMS family. During his high school years, he met, fell in love with and married Zina Heyward. From this union they were blessed with two children, Talmadge Edward and Nia Odell. In his later years, Eddie reconnected with a childhood friend, Debra Taylor and a loving romance was born. They married and enjoyed a twelve (12) year marriage. On the morning of Tuesday, July 28th, with his wife Debra, twin brother Steven, and several family members present, the Lord knew it was time and dispatched his angels to receive his son Edward and take him home to be with the Father. Eddie was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. He is survived by his wife Debra Spicer; son, Talmadge Edward Spicer; daughter, Nia Odell Spicer; two step-sons, Darren Jenkins (Charlene), Dustin Jenkins (Jarena); one grandson, Sekani Nasi Jackson; one twin brother Steven Spicer (Debra); three sisters, Margaret Spicer-Chestnut (Denise), Celeste Barclay (Lennox), Patricia Fleming; two special aunts; Barbara Staten and Catherine Suarez, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. SPICE, REST WELL ON YOUR FINAL EOT
