Obituary of Rev. Roosevelt Kee Jr.

Rev. Roosevelt Kee, Jr. was born on August 24, 1937 to the late Roosevelt Kee, Sr. and Margaret Keyes Kee. Roosevelt entered into eternal rest on September 22, 2020, at his home in Americus, Ga.

Roosevelt was raised in Haverstraw, New York, and graduated from Haverstraw High School. He worked at various jobs after school. Roosevelt had a great baritone singing voice which afforded him a spot on the Ted Mack Show, however his Dad said, "Oh No." Roosevelt was fondly known for his cool demeanor and common responses, such as "that's lovely" or "Merry Christmas." Roosevelt joined the US Army and served four years. Roosevelt worked for New York State at Letchworth Village, Thiells, New York, retiring after thirty plus years.

Roosevelt was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Haverstraw New York, where he served faithfully. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He picked up his Sunday School students every Sunday. He was also a member of the church choir. Roosevelt also sang with the "Geneva Powell Faith Singers" and was involved in their early formative years. He was ordained as Deacon under a former CBC Pastor, Rev. John Miggins. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for several years. Roosevelt was licensed to preach the Gospel under Calvary's former Pastor Howard and ordained as Reverend under the same Pastor. Roosevelt preached for various occasions at Calvary and other County Churches, however he always donated his offerings from these engagements back to the church or to someone in need.

Roosevelt met and married his late wife, Johnnie Lou (Stephens) Kee, and after they both retired from Letchworth Village, they decided to move to Americus, Georgia, Johnnies' hometown, however he continued to support his home church, Calvary. He joined the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church after relocating to Georgia. He served there in many capacities, mainly with the Nursing Home Ministry and Youth Ministry. We know he lent his singing voice in all of his travels. "Roe" or "Chubby Checker" as his Big Sis called him, was a lifetime member of the NAACP and a proud supporter of the UNCF. During his time in Americus Ga., he even had the privilege of meeting our former President, Jimmy Carter.

Roosevelt is predeceased by his wife, Johnnie Lou Kee, 3 brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing, 3 children, Barry, Roosevelt and Phyllis; four grand-children, Dvon, Keenah, Sabrina and Raymond; five sisters, Carrie, Sarah, Janet, Beatrice and Margaret, and one brother Benjamin F. Kee in Palmdale, California; two brothers in law, Wilbur Aldridge and James Vann; two sisters in law, Frances James Zabala and Ossie Tyson, both of Georgia.; two aunts, Dora Ebron and Bertha Watson, God-daughter Desiree of Florida, two extra special angels that looked after Roosevelt & Johnnie Lou..Betty Anne & Charlie of Macon GA and a HOST of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
