Obituary of Private Albert Garbis Marshall Jr.

Please share a memory of Private Albert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On November 22, 2017, Albert Garvis Marshall Jr. was called home to be with the Lord.

Albert, affectionately known as Jr., Al, June Honey, and Albo was born to the late Mary Ethel Marshall and Albert Marshall Sr. on November 8, 1947, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In 1953, the Marshall family relocated to Newark, NJ. Al, along with his family were members of Bethesda Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop James H. Screven where he was baptized.

Al received his education from the Newark Public Schools where he graduated from Central High School, in 1965. Soon after, he enlisted into the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War. One afternoon,

Al was babysitting his baby sister and took her to church to meet his mother. It was that afternoon Al met and fell in love with Charlotte Ann Martin. They were married on August 28, 1971. From this union came the birth of their beautiful daughter, Dawn Marie Marshall on September 28, 1979. Al was a dedicated employee of the Ford Motor Company for 35 years. Through this employment, he was able to retire at the early age of 40.

In 2016 Al moved to Hollywood, Florida where he continued to travel and enjoy his retirement years with his daughter and grandchildren. Always the life of the party, Al enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His laugh was infectious and could be heard from a mile away. His warmth and inviting smile will be sorely missed.

Al was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Marshall; mother, Mary Marshall; father, Albert Marshall Sr.; father-in-law, Lester Martin; brother, Kevin Marshall; sister, Ethel Mason; and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Raymond Green; paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs George Marshall.

He leaves his unforgettable memories to be cherished by his daughter, Dawn Marie Marshall (Ian Williams); grandson, Abdul Marshall; grand-daughters, Mckenzie and Zoey Williams; brother, Keith Marshall (Tina); sisters, Della Jackson, Gwen Marshall, Tammi Marshall; mother-in-law, Gwendolyn Thomas; sister-in-law’s, Debra Knoten (Clarence Jr.), Lisa Bowser; brother-in-law’s, Gregory Thomas (Patricia), Carnell Thomas (Tina), and Aaron Mason aunts Sandra Green & Elsie Weems

Al will be greatly missed by a magnitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
