Obituary of Charles Leslie Royal

Charles Leslie Royal, 72, of Newark, NJ, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Charles was born in Sturgis, Kentucky to Annie Myrtle Pruden and McKinley Crawford on November 4, 1950. He attended schools in Sturgis, Kentucky and Newark, New Jersey. Ultimately, Charles graduated from Barringer High School. He achieved his Bachelor's degree in Education at Kean University and his Master's degree in Mathematics (Magna Cum Laude) from Montclair State University. Following, he worked as a Math Staff Developer/Resource Coordinator and 8th grade Math Teacher for Newark Public Schools for 35 years until he retired in 2007. Charles was involved in everything lively and musically inspired – conversation, traveling and instruments. He received numerous awards for his training and achievements in education.

Charles is preceded in death by his father, Albert Royal, Sr. and his mother, Anna M. Royal. Charles is survived by his siblings Anna Keyton (Willie Keyton), Albert Royal, Jr. (Shirley Royal), Sadie McNeill (Antonio McNeill), Linda Dutton, and Wanda Dutton, as well as nine nieces, six nephews, and a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
