Obituary of Gilbert Lenard Payne

Gilbert Lenard Payne was born on September 4, 1974 in Brooklyn, NY, to Ora and the late Gilbert Payne, Jr. He
departed this life to be with the Lord on November 18, 2018.

Gilbert was reared in Brooklyn, NY and attended elementary school at PS 13 in East New York and junior high
school at I.S. 308 in Bedford Stuyvesant. In 1988, the family relocated to Somerset, NJ where Gilbert attended and
graduated from Franklin High School in 1992. It is there where he was affectionately known and adopted the
nickname “Gee-Wiz”.

Immediately following high school, Gilbert enlisted in the Air Force and served 4 years. He then enlisted in the
Army where he trained to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Most recently he worked at Future Care as a nursing
supervisor.

Gilbert was always willing to lend a helping hand. You could tell him what needed to happen and he took control.
He had a giving spirit and a spirit to serve. He loved the Lord. He was known to carry a pocket-sized bible at all
times, anointed his head with oil and said a prayer before making any decision. In addition to loving the Lord, he
loved his children Jahlil, Genesis, Kacey and Kennedie.

Gilbert married the love of life, Tisha Bernard on January 22, 2013 and they were both excited about the
impending birth of their first child the summer of 2019.

Gilbert was predeceased by his father, Gilbert Payne, Jr, his paternal grandparents, Gilbert Payne, Sr and Laura
Payne, his maternal grandparents Frank Jenkins, Sr and Mary Emma Jenkins; two uncles, Leonard Payne and
Lawrence Jenkins and two aunts, Julia Ann Jenkins and Theresa Simpson.

Gilbert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Tisha Payne; his mother Ora Payne; his son Jahlil Payne; his
daughters Genesis Payne, Kacey Lane and Kennedie Payne; brothers LaShaun (Heather) Jenkins and Cory Payne; his
sisters DeLana Mitchell and Sharnik (Dominic) Ingram; father and mother-in-law Aldwin and Roma Bernard;
brothers-in-law Quincy (Anika) Bernard, Christian Bernard and Shane Bernard; uncles Rodney (Constancha) Payne,
Frank (Marilyn) Jenkins, Jr; Joseph (Melissa) Jenkins, Clifford Jenkins; aunts Betty (Willie) Holmes, Hermenia Faulk,
Vergie Watson, Shirley (Krishna) Verma and Brenda Collins; grandson, Given Payne; nephews Beovonni Glover,
Juston Payne, Dominic Ingram, Jr and LaShaun Jenkins, Jr; nieces Destiny Mitchell, Deja Ingram, Laila Jenkins and
Nyla Payne and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
