Obituary of ALICE MAE DICKERSON

Please share a memory of ALICE to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are celebrating the life of Mrs. Alice Mae Dickerson. Mrs. Dickerson was born on July 9, 1935 in Boykins, Virginia to the late Mary Etta and Major Jordan. Mrs. Dickson was a beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend who touched the lives of many who will be deeply missed. She attended Ossining High School, Ossining, New York at night where she attained her High School Diploma. She grew up in a Christian home attending the Shiloh Baptist Church in Boykins, Virginia as a child where the Jordan Family (maiden name) is one of the founding families of the church. Her faith was strong. As a Mother she often said, “Baby, don’t worry Jesus is gonna work it out.” She moved to Ossining, New York in the early 60’s. Later she would become a member of Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Ossining, New York where she sang in the senior choir. She remarried, moved to Charleston, West Virginia and attended and became a member of the former Bishop T. D. Jakes church. Mrs. Dickerson moved back to Ossining, New York in August 2011 due to surgery on her foot and needing constant care. She became confined to a wheelchair and was moved to Bethel Nursing Home in Croton, New York. Pastor Gary Colter, Mount Lebanon Baptist Church commitment to bring the word of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to the residents of Bethel Nursing Home brought comfort, hope and prayer to Mrs. Dickson. She joined the church, sang in the choir and became a “Mother at the church.” After church, it was not uncommon to see people having dinner that we didn’t know or friends of her children living in her home. She always bought JOY to others. Cheryl Cherry (close childhood friend of the family) said, “I don’t every recall your mother being angry.” Many of the staff of Bethel Nursing Home said, “Mrs. Dickerson was loved by everyone.” Many called her Mom. Mrs. Dickerson never let the physical pain she felt stop her. She often said, “Baby, you gotta keep on moving. I can’t let this stop me.” And, she didn’t. She leaves to cherish her memory and honor her legacy of Love and Good Will to people you meet four daughters: Marsha Diane Worrell, Karen Worrell, Mrs. Wanda Coca (Charlie), Mrs. Marion Grover. Four sons: Lawrence Scoggins, Leslie Scoggins, Keney Worrell (Cheryl) and David Worrell. One deceased son, Wallace Worrell III. Son-in-Law, Charlie Coca. A brother, Randolph (Laura) Jordan.
