Obituary of Mary Smith

Mary Edith Smith was born on March 6, 1939 to the late Rufus Jackson, Sr and Jennie Mae Jackson in Emanuel County, Ga. On Tuesday, February 8, 2022 the Lord called her home.

Mary attended Summit Rosenwald School & Twin City Elementary School in Twin City, Ga and Swainsboro High and Industrial School in Swainsboro, Georgia

Mary moved to New Jersey in the early 60's and started working at a dry cleaners before working as an assembler at RCA Corporation in Avenel. She finally landed her job at Schering-Plough as a tablet coder, working for 26 years before retiring in 2000.

Mary loved to travel, watch soap opera's, do word searches and watch her beloved Knicks, no matter how many games they may have lost. She definitely had a soft spot for her grandkids and her great grandson.

Mary is predeceased by her parents Rufus Jackson, Sr and Jennie Mae Jackson, her brother Rufus (Junior) & her sister Jennie Ruth. 

Mary is survived by her children, Ronald Ward, Darlene (Nathan) Handberry, LaQuisha Smith & LaTonya (Omari) Palms. 

Mary is also remembered by her grandchildren, Nate Handberry, Ron and Sheronda Ward, Tyrone Jones, Jr, Maya Handberry, Aszhadia Harris, Cheyenne Jones, Alanii and Ayanna Palms. A great grandson that she affectionately called "Man"  Zy'aire Jones, a niece Gwendolyn Brown, nephews Jerry and Jeffrey Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
