Obituary of Andre Lamont Gunn

Please share a memory of Andre to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Andre Lamont Gunn was born in Newark, New Jersey on December 5, 1965, to the late Grady H. Curry and the late Carolyn L. Gunn.

He was educated in the Newark Public School system attending Dayton Street Elementary School and Malcolm X. Shabazz High School until his senior year, when he transferred to Irvington Tech Vocational and graduated in 1984.  He then enlisted in the United States Army on September 6, 1984, where he faithfully served his country for nearly 6 years as a Petroleum Specialist until receiving an honorable discharge on July 9, 1990. He became a Mason, while serving in Germany. On September 10, 1990, he began working for Ogden Allied Aviation as a Supervisor for the fuel farm until retiring on June 15, 2010.  Being an avid worker, he didn’t stay retired long and began working security for Gateway until his health began to decline.

In 1990, while taking care of some personal business, he walked into a law office and was greeted by the legal secretary, Mildred Ford, who would soon become the love of his life. From their first encounter their lives would never be the same. Their relationship brought the best qualities of both to the surface, and they solidified their bond when they were united in holy matrimony on May 31, 1998.  The marriage strengthened their bond and increased the love between the two, which inspired them to renew their vows on May 25, 2019.

“Dre” as he was affectionately known by family and friends or “Pop” as he was referred to by his godchildren was a fun-loving person. Standing 6 foot 6 inches tall, he could never be missed upon entering a room. He was known for being the "glue" that kept the family together and being the pillar of the family, he was always just a phone call or text away for anyone who needed his assistance or input. Any information needed for the family could be obtained, all you had to do was “call Andre”.  In his spare time, he loved sitting on his couch watching tv, singing, cooking, entertaining, traveling and spending time with his family and socializing with his friends.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, he completed his earthly journey and entered eternal rest.
