Obituary of Delphine Swain

Please share a memory of Delphine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Saturday November 12th Delphine “Cookie” Swain gained her wings to rest with her Lord.

Delphine “Cookie” Swain was born on August 3, 1954 to the late Ulysses & Thelma Daniel in Newark, NJ.

Delphine or as most called her “Cookie” was born and raised in Newark, NJ where she attended Newark Public Schools. After high school Cookie attended  Sawyer Business School to pursue a career in accounting. Having a favorite aunt in Brooklyn, NY.   Cookie chased her dreams starting her accounting career in Manhattan. In October 1977 Cookie gave birth to her beloved daughter Tasha.

In 1980 Cookie realized that she wanted to give her life to the Lord. She attended New Hope Baptist Church until she found her church home at Christian Pentecostal Church which we know now as Transcend Worship Center.

In May 1986 Cookie reunited with her high school sweetheart, James Swain and in July of that year they were happily married.

In the early 90’s Cookie wanted to further her journey with the Lord so she attended Eastern Bible Institute where she received certification in Religious studies.

Cookie was one strong willed, loving and hardworking woman.  There was no one that came in her presence with a problem that she didn’t try to help with if she could.  Her servitude for the lord and her family was unmatched. Cookie volunteered a lot of her time at her church ushering, making lunches for the Wednesday afternoon prayer. There wasn’t anything “Swainy” wouldn’t do to help out with the church.

Cookie is survived by her daughter beloved Tasha , 5 grandchildren Haneef (Shantia), Naazir (Tybria), Haleem, Saniyah and Asaadah, great-grandson Kai’den.  Sister in Laws Jackie Stovall, Shaheeda Hill and Pat Golden. Brother -in Laws, Vashon Hill, Ahmad Hill and Dwayne Hill.  Cousins Linda, Bernard & William Huntley. A host of nieces and nephews and other family members as well as her best friend Sharon McCann
