Obituary of Deloris Jones

Celebration the life of a phenomenal woman. Who had a love for family connection, a life live with Peace and Lovejoy

Deloris Jones was born February 24, 1951 in Wilson, North Carolina to the late Haywood Jones, Sr and Mary B. Jones.

Deloris attended Speight Grammar Schools and Charles H Darden High School in Wilson, North Carolina. She moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1967 attended “South Side” now known as Malcolm X Shabazz High School and graduated in 1969. She further her education and graduated from Essex County College.

Deloris was a member of the U.S. Army.

Deloris was employed at PSE & G as a secretary, until her health began to decline in 1996 when she retired.

Deloris may have retired from the work force but she continued her job as the family caregiver until her hour cometh.  Deloris known to her family as Pumpkin was always with you taking pictures capturing memories, telling stories of partying with her family and friends. She was the family bookkeeper full of wisdom always willing to lend a helping hand. She had no problem straightening you out or telling you what she expected from you.  She made sure to keep order and demanded cleanliness anywhere she stepped foot. She walked with us from the beginning but now she goes with him that sent her.

Deloris was like no other she was able to comfort and deliver God’s word without you knowing. She battled for 36 year with health issues but kept her joyful spirit unit she was reunited with her love ones in paradise. She left her earthly body on Friday, March 17, 2023 surrounded with love and being herself independent, a jokester, dancing and making sure everyone around her was okay.

Her life will continue to shine through; daughter Angel; son Rashid (Rosemane); grandchildren Anneesah (Steven), Nasir, Ymanee and Yahsir; great grandchildren “Her reason to fight” Zion The Rock and Zara Diva Norie; sister Dorothy Jones who currently holds the torch. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is reunited in paradise with; father Haywood Jones Sr; mother Mary B. Jones; brothers Haywood Jones Jr, James Edward Jones Sr and Robert Lee Jones; sisters Annie Pearl Twitty, Mary Holmes and Hilderene Rowe.
