Obituary of Therese May Lawton

Please share a memory of Therese to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Therese May Lawton Obituary Therese May Lawton, affectionately known to many as “Terry”, was born in the District of Mandeville, Parish of Manchester, in Jamaica, West Indies, on May 4, 1943. She was the eldest child of Hubert and Hazel Gordon.

Therese’s journey through life was one of immense love, resilience, and devotion. Her life was marked by the deep connections she formed with those around her. She was married to Raymond Lawton, and together they had four children; Donovan, Raymond, Marie (Tina), and Monique. Therese made her way to America in 1969, where she would later sponsor her husband and children to join her in Boston, Massachusetts. Therese would continue to support many friends, loved ones, and acquaintances.

Therese’s early years, she attended schools in Jamaica, making many friends that she kept throughout her lifetime. She worked as a office manager and receptionist in various industries while caring for her young children. As her children grew, she pursued higher education, earning a degree in Accounting from Middlesex County College. Later in life, Therese's passion for helping others led her to become a realtor. She was delighted to help people, including many friends find their dream homes.

Therese met Glenford Williams in the early 80's, and they forged an unbreakable bond that spanned 4 decades of inseparable companionship, love, traveling, and dancing.

Therese was a woman with a boundless love for her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her "Auntie." Her home was always open, and her cooking skills were legendary, as she made sure everyone had a plate to enjoy. Therese's impact extended to counseling others and assisting people with homeownership and pursuing their life aspirations.

Therese was a light in any gathering. Her shy disposition contrasted with her beautiful smile and magnetic personality, which drew people to her. She was a devout Christian, baptized in 1978, and found solace in reading her Bible daily, often quoting scripture.

Therese also had a passion for capturing life's moments, whether through photographs or home videos. She was always at family functions dancing doing her famous dip, and always ready with her camera. Her collection of photo albums served as a testament to her love for preserving moments with those she loved so passionately.

Therese persevered with grace and humility despite her health challenges in her later years. She was always armed with smile to provide levity and calm. Glen, stood by her side through it all.

Therese Lawton, a beacon of love, kindness, and devotion, will be dearly missed. She was predeceased by her parents Hubert and Hazel Gordon and siblings Gloria, Ivor, Delroy, Patrick, Desmond and her namesake grandchild Terese. She is survived by her siblings Ruby Saunders, Sheila Robinson, Charlie Gordon, Michelle Gordon-Seemore and her loving partner Glen. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her children, grandchildren Shanice, Aaron, Yasmeen, Aisha, Josef, N’Dea, and Imani; five great-grandchildren, Lennox, Joy, Langston, Jade and Jenesis and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
